Australian 3rd in NZ OK Dinghy Nationals

by Campbell Scott on 10 Jan 2002
Korean rep Jin Hon-chul won the 4th race of the NZ OK Dinghy Nationals being
held off Napier's Westshore.
Jin, a contender for a sailing gold medal at this year's Asian Games, took
full advantage of a large mid-race wind shift to take the win with series
leader, Alastair Gair second and 19 year old university student Richard
Barker of Hastings third.
The race was started in moderate north-easterlies but the wind shift enabled
Barker to lead the race for a time.
Gair has now posted 3 seconds and a fourth to tighten his grip on the title.
Race 5 was also scheduled for today but was abandoned due to lack of wind.
A re-sail of this race has been scheduled for tomorrow in conjunction with
race 6.
Seventy-four competitors from eleven countries are competing in the
Nationals regatta with more expected for the World OK Dinghy championship to
be held at the same venue starting next Tuesday.
