Gold Coast Poker Run set to fire

by Bob Wonders on 31 Aug 2008
No introduction necessary (sadly!), the Gold Coast Meter Maids will add glamour to the Poker Run. SW
The Gold Coast has been chosen for the inaugural Tige’ Boats Poker Run scheduled for Sunday, September 14. Destined to be a true glamour event, the poker run will raise funds for the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard.

The poker run has attracted an impressive array of sponsors, among them the Bruce Lynton Group, BMW, Range Rover and Mini specialists, the famous SAKS restaurant and bar, internet service provider On The Net, storage company Rent-a-Shed. King Tutt’s mini golf and, sure to create added interest, the iconic Gold Coast Meter Maids.

Our colleagues at Go Boating magazine have also come aboard to support the event.

'This is a family event which is all about getting out and going boating and we’re delighted to be supporting the program,' Go Boating publisher Peter Scott, declared.

Every boat entered will receive a hand of playing cards as part of the entry package, while there is the opportunity for each crew member to purchase a hand of cards for a small additional cost.

Teams will also be able to purchase an extra ‘random card’ at the end of the day, an appealing opportunity if someone is perhaps one card away from a winning straight flush!

A luncheon stop arranged by organisers is sure to prove popular.

The ‘fleet’ will berth up at the world class Meridien Marinas Horizon Shores facility for a ‘slap up’ lunch at the Anchorage Café’, currently under new management and promoting a new menu.

Additional friends, family and supporters not aboard one of the competing boats can also meet up with the crews at the Anchorage Café’.

All boats entered must be insured, carry relevant safety equipment and all skippers must be licensed and comply with Queensland Transport Maritime regulations.

The poker run will also mark the Australian release of the new model Tige’ (pronounced Tiger) boats, with the all-new Tige’ RZ4 in a stunning orange and black colour scheme leading the way.

It features a new Alpha Z tower and a 343hp engine.

Another Tige’ sure to attract attention will be the 22VE, with its 65 function LCD electronic dashboard.

It also boasts the Alpha Z tower and has been prepared in an eye-catching blue, black and white colour scheme.

Entries to the poker run musty be made in advance; no entries will be accepted on the day.

Powerboat-World (which has been invited to join the run) will monitor the lead up to the event (and is very much prepared to follow the Meter Maids!) and keep readers informed.

To obtain entry forms (Australia-wide) go to the website, www.pokerun.com.au or telephone free call to 1800 233 719.
