Roger looks for the opposition - Roger Gilbert and Jane Willan RS200 Champions 2008 Around The Cans http://www.aroundthecans.co.uk

Roger Gilbert and Jane Willan needed just one race Thursday to confirm their second title at the Gul RS200 UK National Championship held at Hayling Island SC. Leading from race one, Gilbert and Willan only slipped once - In the second race Ben Saxton and Kate Macgregor won the only race of the championship to allude their grasp - fittingly Saxton and Macgregor pulled through on the final day to take second overall.

After winning the penultimate race, Gilbert and Willan were able to head ashore, leaving the 136 entry fleet to battle for the podium places. Steve Dunn and Charlotte Cotter won the final race to finish 17th overall. But it was the only other race winners, Saxton and Macgregor, who with an 11th and a second, finished the series in second place.

Third overall went to Robbie Burns and Victoria Lee Simpson who finished the week with their best days results, a third and second. Next up were David and Jane Hivey who took fourth on count back ahead of James Peters and Alan Roberts of the host club.

Showing just how tight this championship has been, there was another points tie for sixth and seventh places. James Stewart and Toby Lewis taking sixth ahead of Luke Patience and Chris Grube.

One point behind them were Ian and Chris Martin and in ninth . . . Geoff Carveth and Lucy Macgreagor, just 16 points covering the eight top boats chasing the new RS200 Champions for 2008 - Roger Gilbert and Jane Willan from Frensham Pond SC.

In the silver fleet, Maria Stanley and Ian Robertson won a tight battle to finish first in front of Katrina Gilbert and Jenny Rust, and Jayne Johnson/Nicola Mcilroy. Bronze fleet champion was Katie Restall and Claire Stubbs, holding off Paul Hayes and Neal Whitbread in second, with Charlotte Savage and Helen Wightman a place behind in third.
