Shockwave 5 arrives MacKay Marina from Panama

by Andrew Short on 15 Aug 2008
Shockwave 5 Rob Mundle
A very big congratulations goes out to the six delivery crew of Shockwave 5 who docked at MacKay Marina at 4am this morning after 32 days at sea.

They left Panama late on the 12th July originally heading for Tahiti then MacKay. Because they were making such good progress and knowing how much I wanted to do 'Audi Hamilton Island Race Week' if the boat arrived to Australia on time, they opted to continue sailing onto MacKay non- stop.

A fantastic effort to have covered the 8000nm from Panama to Australia in such good time and even better still- next to no damage to report- which is not only good on my wallet but also means we can now do Race Week.

I must thank the delivery crew- David Haines- Captain, Spike Abram, Will Findlay, Gorgon Wildburger (130' Super Yacht Captain), Tracey Lee Turner and Victoria Meroni. They are now waiting for Customs and Quarantine to arrive (around 9am) so they can get off the boat, freshen up and have a decent meal then sleep.

Most of the crew had never met each other before this trip and with the exception of Spike, none of these guys and girls had any idea a week before that they would be doing this voyage on my new yacht. They made themselves available at a 4 day's notice and I only had to ask once!

It is a great sacrifice they have made and I am sure it has been a trip they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Lastly, I must also thank Roger (Clouds) Badham who did the weather routing for the boat giving them the fastest and safest route to sail the boat back here for us. He continued to do second half of the trip routing from China where he is over there doing the weather for our Olympic sailors.

A great effort from them all.
