At a press conference held at the Royal Phuket Marina on 5th August, and attended by over 100 Press and VIPs to announce the opening of the new Royal Phuket Marina Exhibition and Conference Centre it was also announced that Informa Yacht Group have acquired The Phuket International Marine Expo (PIMEX).
Since its launch in 2003, PIMEX has established itself as the largest boat show in the SE Asia region. Its development as the leading marine event has been due to the major growth in marine leisure activities as Phuket has earned international recognition as the top cruising and boating destination in Asia.

Informa Yacht Group is the yachting events division of Informa PLC, the leading international provider of specialist information and services for the academic and scientific, professional and commercial business communities. Informa organizes more than 10,000 events each year and has over 150 offices in more than 40 countries and employs 7,500 staff around the world. Informa Plc has offices in Singapore and operates 25 exhibitions in South East Asia.

The Informa Yacht Group (IYG) own a number of leading superyacht and other marine events, including:
• Monaco Yacht Show (The world’s leading Superyacht event now in its 18th year.)
• Abu Dhabi Yacht Show
• The Superyacht Cup (The leading sailing regatta for Superyachts held in Palma Spain and Antigua. Now in its 14th year)
• The Beijing Boat Show
• The World Yacht Racing Forum Monaco
• The Mediterranean Workboat Show

Will Morris, Managing Director of Informa Yacht Group, said “We are really excited about the future of the marine industry in the region, and we hope that our experience and considerable network will propel PIMEX to new heights and ensure that it is positioned to serve all aspects of this rapidly growing market.”

Andaman Marine Consultants will continue to manage the event on the ground, although now with the back up of one of Europe's foremost luxury marine and lifestyle event companies.

Andaman Marine Consultants MD Andy Dowden said: “The involvement of Informa is a very important development for PIMEX and one that will really contribute to its future and ensure that PIMEX is the marine show of choice in South East Asia.”

Simultaneously Informa and Royal Phuket Marina announced the launch of Royal Phuket Marina International Exhibition and Conference Centre which will provide 2,500 sq metres of purpose built exhibition hall directly on the waterside. A first in Thailand and a first in the region.

And PIMEX will be its first customer!

Sponsored and supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.

Whether interested in boating or simply curious about how Phuket has become one of the most sought after luxury destinations in the world, visiting Royal Phuket Marina and PIMEX is a must during the first week of December.
