Seaquest cruiser-racer at Sydney Boat Show

The Australian distributors will have the Seaquest RP36 in the floating marina section of this hugely popular boating must-do event. ‘We are expecting a lot of interest in this yacht which I see as an exciting alternative for owners searching in this size and style category of yachts available in Australia and the Asia Pacific,’ explained Chris Pomfret, National Sales and Marketing Manager.

The Reichel-Pugh designed yacht is very fast for its waterline length due to its powerful sail plan and stiff characteristics brought about by its generous T-bulb fin keel which has a ballast of 2,500kg’s. The fine entry and relatively narrow waterline are distinctively Reichel-Pugh.

‘The interior and deck is a little more traditional in its layout as comfort was definitely in mind during this stage of the design phase. Treasure VIII Preparing for Airlie beach Race Week

Anyone sailing in Northern Queensland will no doubt have heard of or raced against the very spritely Harold Menelaus at some stage in their sailing lives. Almost an Octogenarian, he has clocked quite a few miles aboard his many yachts all bearing the name ‘Treasure’ but more recently his latest miles have been aboard a brand new Seaquest RP36 christened ‘Treasure VIII’.

'I was very keen to do well in the racing up here, so after some detailed research I found and bought my Seaquest RP36.’ explained Harold during a recent after sales visit by the Seaquest Yachts team. 'I wanted a yacht that looks good, is manufactured to a high standard, is comfortable downstairs but most importantly, sails fast'.

Harold’s Yacht was delivered and commissioned at Hawks boat yard Airlie Beach Queensland in March 2008. Harold used local sailor, Robert Cordingley from Ullman Sails for his sail package.

Seaquest Yachts is in regular contact with Harold but recently we received a call from Harold who had some exciting news to tell us.

'We raced Treasure V111 yesterday in our Whitsunday Yacht Club twilight race and in 8 to 12 knots of breeze we finished 8 minutes ahead of anyone across the line and 1 minute ahead on handicap. It was one of the best races I have ever had.'

Treasure VIII is currently being prepared for the Meridian Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week where Harold hopes to enjoy some close racing in the IRC Division. Being a ‘local lad’ in a highly competitive boat we are sure Harold and his crew will enjoy some success in the regatta. Crewing aboard the yacht will be Robert Cordingley from Ullman Sails, Airlie Beach who has been busy building sails for the yacht.

Chris Pomfret joined Seaquest Yachts in May 2008

In May 2008 Chris Pomfret joined the Seaquest Yachts team and is based in the head office located at Holmeport Marinas, Church Point, Sydney, Australia. Previous to Seaquest Yachts Chris has been sailing professionally and working on various marketing projects in the local marine industry.

'After sailing a few times on the Seaquest demo boat ‘Leewana’ in the RPAYC twilight series I found myself saying to anyone that would listen that I would really like to go sailing that boat again. It was refreshingly fun to sail.’ said Pomfret. ‘After sailing a lot of yachts in this size range the performance and finish of ‘Leewana’ is what got me interested enough to talk to Campbell Holmes the director of Seaquest Yachts – Australia about how I could help the business.’

Apart from managing the marketing for Seaquest Yachts Chris is focusing on helping owners work through the process of buying a new yacht and assisting the existing owners with any issues or suggestions to help them enjoy their sailing more.

The Melbourne Connection

Melbourne airline pilot Rod Miller has been enjoying sailing his new Seaquest RP36, ‘Gienah’ with some early impressive results. The choice of this boat came after a lot of research by Rod who was searching for a boat that would be ideal for racing out of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron on Port Phillip Bay with his family and friends.

A podium finish in this year’s Top of the Bay regatta has been a recent highlight which then lead to Gienah gaining selection as a club representative in the Associations Cup. The Associations Cup will see the top boats from each club on the bay race in a team’s event. It is an exciting start to the Miller families Seaquest RP36 ownership.
Gienah will be raced during the winter in the Port Philip Bay combined clubs Range Series. Watch this space.

Seaquest Yachts Dubai is busy working on a one off Stephen Jones 34 footer for a client based in Dubai who intends to race his new boat in the UAI 2008/2009 season.
