Mercury Racing’s Verado 350 SCI

by Bob Wonders on 18 Jul 2008
Destined to be a winner....Mercury Racing’s Verado powerhouse, the 350 SCi. - Mercury Racing leads from the front.. Powerboat-World.com http://www.powerboat-world.com
When Mercury Racing has something to say, performance enthusiasts listen and they’re listening and looking at the all-new Verado 350 SCI, a superb in-line six cylinder outboard aimed at giving speed lovers more power and performance than any comparable engine.

From its top cowl to the new gearcase, the new Verado 350 SCI has been designed to exceed expectations in product quality, reliability and performance by combining the ‘brains’ of Verado with the ‘brawn’ of Mercury Racing.

Performance comes from a 2.6-litre supercharged engine which features electronically controlled sequential multi-port fuel injection, four valves per cylinder, double overhead cam design, a charge-air cooler and electronic bypass control..

The new cowl design, with fresh air intakes on the top and front, helps maintain constant operating temperatures by circulating cool air around the powerhead and other components and also channels fresh air directly to the supercharger.

Mercury Marine says the engine boasts the strength, toughness and durability demanded by recreational boaters and offshore anglers.

Durability has been enhanced with the creation of an all-new sand-cast drive housing, while stainless steel guide plates with fibre wear pads and high performance engine mounts offer engine stability at high speed.

The engine’s high torque and power output is handled by a new hydrodynamic gearcase.

Patented sound-dampening technology ensures a remarkably quiet engine despite its high performance capability.

The Verado 350 SCI also boasts SmartStart – just turn the key and release and the engine starts automatically.

Electro-hydraulic power steering and SmartStart DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) provide for a smooth and responsive driving experience combined with ‘sports car-like’ handling and performance.

Mercury Marine expects the new engine to be available through authorised dealerships before Christmas.

The 25” and 30” versions will be available through all Verado dealerships; the 20: version through authorised Mercury Racing dealerships only.
