3rd Superyacht Cup Antigua set for December

by Kate Branagh on 18 Jul 2008
SW
The 3rd Superyacht Cup Antigua will be held from December 9th - 12th, in Nelson's Dockyard on the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua.

Timed to follow on from the Antigua Yacht Charter Show (December 4th - 9th), the regatta is a great way to open the new season by enjoying three days of racing with perfect trade-wind conditions and spectacular scenery. The evening's social activities bring the owners, captains, crew and guests altogether every afternoon after sailing for informal, lively dock parties, enjoying the best of the Caribbean hospitality.

This year 10 to 12 yachts are expected to take part, and already confirmed is the recently launched 'P2', the 38m/125' sloop designed by Philippe Briand and built by Perini Navi at their newly renovated Beconcini Facility in La Spezia, Italy. The yacht splashed early this month and will be undergoing tuning and training sessions this summer before heading across the Atlantic to the Caribbean for The Superyacht Cup Antigua. The yacht is owned by an experienced sailing family who cruised the world extensively on their previous boat, 'Perseus’. Now with their new, elegant, performance-cruising yacht, the owners and their two young sons will continue their racing and cruising adventures in superyacht regatta destinations around the world.

Build Captain, Jonathan Kline explained, 'The Superyacht Cup and other Maxi and Bucket events will be a highlight for everyone involved with Team P2; the owner and his family plan to invite friends and a handful of talented racing sailors to compete together in an atmosphere of learning and excitement. The Superyacht Cup Antigua will be a great opportunity for us to test P2 (hull number one of a new series by Briand and Perini Navi) in the big seas and trade winds of the Caribbean. We are all looking forward to it very much.'

Last year's winner, Sojana, the 35m ketch owned by Peter Harrison will be back to defend her title, sailed by her experienced international crew, she is sure to put in a good performance.
