Australian F1 Superboat - Port Macquarie cancelled

F1 Superboats not returning to Port Macquarie Australian F1 Superboat Series - f1boat.com.au http://www.f1boat.com.au
A very successful round of the 2008 Australia XLR8 Home Loans F1 Superboat series was completed in Newcastle on June 15th but this has been followed by a disappointing cancellation of Round 4 in Port Macquarie.

Fi Superboat series CEO Kirk Tsaccounis explained that ‘Due to Port Macquarie/Hastings Council last minute decision to not support the running Round 4 of the F1 Superboat Series at McInherney Park, Port Macquarie, it is with great regret that the Australian F1 Superboat Series Management must cancel this year’s event due to be held on the weekend of 11-13th July 2008.

‘Alternative options to race at the very popular Westport Park are not viable for the Series due to the considerable fees attached in having private vessels moved from the racing precinct for the entire weekend.

‘Minimal sponsorship and community support to stage the event at Wauchope, along with mixed feelings from teams, crews and spectators has escalated the resistance in staging the event outside the immediate Port Macquarie area.

‘Australian F1 Superboat Series Management hopes this has not caused any inconvenience to those who are directly related to the Series regarding moving forward with this Round as this was a Council decision.’

The next Round of the 2008 series, Round 6 is on track for the weekend of August 23/24th in the Spit – Marine Stadium on the Gold Coast.
