New York crossed the finish line of Race 14 in first place at 0014 GMT (0114 BST) on Saturday claiming the overall title of Clipper 07-08.

Duggie Gillespie and his team will claim the maximum ten points for securing their sixth first place in the ten-month series, giving them an unassailable lead over their nearest rivals, Hull & Humber. For Danny Watson and his team, hopes of an overall victory failed as the New York team stretched out a narrow lead over the rest of the fleet as they pushed towards Liverpool. Hull & Humber started Race 14 with a 3.5 point deficit to New York. New York finishes Clipper 07-08 with their final point tally in triple digits at 103.5 overall.

Uniquely Singapore finished Race 14 in second place, crossing the finish line at 0034 GMT (0134 BST), with Hull & Humber less than three minutes behind, taking the final podium of Clipper 07-08 when they crossed the line at 0037 (0137 BST).

Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper crossed the finish line of Race 14 of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race in sixth place at 01:46:20 GMT (02:46:20 BST) on Saturday claiming third place overall in the biennial event. In an incredibly close finish after 240 nautical miles of racing from Cork, Liverpool 08 crossed the line less than one minute ahead of the Glasgow team at 01:45:25 GMT (02:45:25 BST) to claim fifth place in Race 14. Liverpool 08 had been battling with Qingdao for 4th overall, but the Chinese team’s fourth place finish in Race 14 will secure them fourth place overall. Marcus Cholerton-Brown and his Qingdao team crossed the line at 0125 GMT (0225 BST) scuppering Ben Galloway’s hopes of an overall fourth place as he sailed into his team’s home port.

Hannah Jenner, Skipper of Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper started Race 14 from Cork to Liverpool with an incontestable lead over the remaining seven yachts and was guaranteed a podium position overall. With the five points awarded for her sixth place finish in Race 14, Hannah Jenner and the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper team have a final tally of 87 points overall at the end of their 35,000-mile race around the globe.

The teams will now have a few hours rest before making their way up the River Mersey for the start of the Liverpool 08 Dash at approximately 0930 GMT (1030 BST).
