Solo Inland title for Neil Wilkinson

by Sail-World on 17 Jun 2008
Solo Inland Championship Rutland SC

107 boats took part in the Solo Inland Championship held at Rutland SC over the weekend. Neil Wilkinson from Shustoke SC did not win a race but his scoreline of 3, 9, 11 gave him the title. In second place was Chris Brown and in third place, Richard Pye from Draycote SC.

Pye was the only one of the three leading sailors to win a race and with only three races completed, no discard could be taken so consistency was king. Tony Cooper from King George SC won the first race with David McGregor of HISC in second place and Wilkinson taking third for his best individual race finish.

In race two it was Pye who lead the 100 plus fleet across the finishing line after a 23rd in the first race, with Dutchman Jiebbe Swant taking second to add to his fourth in the first race and take the overall lead. Ian Hoyston from Littleton SC was third.

Final race and Charlie Cumberly from Teign Corinthian SC won to pull himself into fourth place overall. Swant ruined his title chances with a 58th, while Pye, a winner back in 2002, put himself in contention, finishing second, but the eleventh place of Wilkinson was sufficient to take the title.

Michael Ball from Papercourt SC was first Veteran in 11th place and David Liddington of Rugby & Daventry SC first Grand Master in 17th place overall.
