Leading Australian boating holiday specialist has announced co-sponsorship of the 2008 – 9 Club Marine Range Series run by Victorian Yachting in conjunction with the Royal Yacht of Victoria, Hobson’s Bay yacht Club, Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, Royal Brighton Yacht Club and Sandringham Yacht Club.

The sponsorship has been concluded in conjunction with release of details of an inter-club yacht rally to be sailed in Croatia in September 2009 – to be operated by Mariner Boating Holidays. Two places on the rally worth more than $15,000 have been offered by Mariner and Yachting Victoria will offer those places in a raffle to raise funds for their youth sailing program.

Mariner Managing Director Trevor Joyce said, 'our rally formula is unique in that it offers more lay days than races so people who are not necessarily attracted to racing can still participate. Our events now attract a near 50:50 mix of males and females and many of the partners of racing people who would not normally go near a regatta of any sort are happy to go along with a few 10 mile races during a two week period on a flat sea with no spinnakers'.

'On a typical race day we will cruise to a rendezvous in the morning, stop for lunch and a swim and then race the last ten miles or so to the final destination for the day, where we will have arranged berthing and a dinner in the evening to present prizes for the day’s racing, he concluded.'

Croatia is still flavour of the month among cruising sailors and the track for the rally will include Sibenik, Primosten, Trogir, Milne, Hvar, Korcula, Mjlet, Kobas, Ston, and Kolocep on the way to the terminus in Dubrovnik.

The dates for the event are set at August 28 to September 15 with departure from Australia on Thursday August 28.
