Tempus 2000 - For Medical Emergencies at Sea

by BW Media on 8 Jun 2008
The Tempus 2000 SW

If you've got everything else on board your yacht, then there's one more gizmo that could save a life. It's called the Tempus 2000, and it can remotely detect the condition of a crew member or passenger who has suffered either an accident or a serious medical condition. It then transmits this information remotely to medical professionals - AND it can be operated by anyone with a little training.

It's encased in a small box which can be carried on board, stowed away easily and out of sight, but can make a pivotal diagnosis in those vital seconds and minutes - a diagnosis that is based on fact and can spell the difference between life and death. The patients blood pressure, pulse and heart rhythms are collected and transmitted from any remote location to ground-based medical experts, ensuring fast aggressive treatment, advice and support as required.

The Tempus 2000 was first developed for the aviation market, and is, in fact, carried by many airlines, who can use it to quickly diagnose the medical condition of a passenger, and perhaps avoid expensive diversions and groundings through lack of knowledge of the patients real condition. For instance, to take a patient's temperature simply involves the placing of a probe in the patient's ear, and the temperature appears instantly both on the machine itself and at a response centre in a matter of seconds.

It's not cheap, and it's being marketed strongly to superyachts, who tend to carry Heads of State and celebrities as passengers sometimes, so if you're still hankering for that new Code Zero, you may want to slip the Tempus 2000 down on the wish list.
