Murray Bucknall MC for SYC Sportsman’s luncheon

Get motivated, inspired and be entertained this winter at Southport Yacht Club’s Sportsman’s Lunch, Friday 27th June 2008.

Guest speakers include: Australia’s official Olympic historian Mr Harry Gordon CMG AM; Mr Doug Henderson, Chairman of the Kokoda Challenge; and Southport Yacht Club Sailing Member Murray Bucknall.

Mr Gordon will inform attendees of his vast experience at Olympic Games dating back to his first Games, the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, discuss his ascension to acknowledged doyen of Australian Olympic journalism and Australia’s chances at the 2008 Beijing Olympics especially in the swimming pool.

He certainly loves writing and has just completed his fifteenth book, Gold! An Olympic Celebration, which is scheduled for publication this month.

As Chairman of the Kokoda Challenge, a 96km cross country team event to be completed in the Gold Coast Hinterland in under 39hours on 19th and 20th July, Mr Doug Henderson will speak on the benefits this challenge provides, particularly to the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program.

Teams participating in the Kokoda Challenge have committed to raise $1,000 to help fund this Youth Program for young people from all walks of life which encourages them to learn the skills and values of discipline, tolerance, respect and self worth.

Finally, Mr Murray Bucknall will be the MC for this Sportsman’s luncheon and will also speak on the challenges and enjoyment of being a competitive sailor particularly in the mammoth 2007 Melbourne – Osaka Double Handed Yacht Race, a 5,500 nautical mile race which, he and Jon Sayer placed third on line honours and first in their class.

This Sportsman’s Lunch is open to men and women with individual and discounted group bookings of ten available through Southport Yacht Club Reception on 07 5591 3500.
