Team Tyco is back on the water in full force. The crew repaired the boat's rudder in record time and the team has launched into their
rigorous sail testing and training program. Team Tyco will spend the rest of the week preparing for the next leg in the waters out
past the picturesque Sydney Heads.
Australian Project Manager Michael Castania commented, 'It's great to have the boat back on the water. We've had good weather
for testing and it's great for the team to be back out there sailing together. The shore team has been very quick to repair the boat
and the boys have been out sailing twice already.'
On the boat's arrival in Sydney by container ship, Australian Helmsman/Trimmer Jim Close said, 'I think it's fantastic because now
that the boat's here, we can all focus on winning the next leg. We've been sail testing today, looking at new sails and getting ready
for the next leg. I think the new sails look sensational and we're on track. I've had a couple teams congratulate us on getting our
boat together in two day. We're in good shape.'
Team Tyco's Volvo Ocean 60 yacht arrived on Thursday 13th by container ship. After leading the fleet for four days on the Cape
Town to Sydney leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, Team Tyco sustained major damage to their steering gear 650 miles into the Southern
Ocean.
The team returned to South Africa where they assessed the degree of the damage and subsequently retired from leg two of the
nine-stage race. Team Tyco earned one point for starting, but not finishing, the second leg of the race. The team is focused and
eager to start racing again.
