Mirsky Racing Team are confirmed entrants in the Korea Match Cup, Match Cup Sweden, and The Danish Open, three of the upcoming events on the World Match Racing Tour. The team is most excited about the Tour’s newest (and richest) addition, the Korea Match Cup which is to be held in June.
MRT’s mentoring figure, and Match Racing heavyweight Peter Gilmour will be competing in Korea, giving his apprentice Torvar Mirsky a chance for revenge after a tight race in the Monsoon Cup last year. 'Peter has always been one of our idols growing up, and we can’t wait to prove our potential to him' said Torvar on the upcoming confrontation.
Kinley Fowler and Tudur Owen, the trim team on MRT have been training in Southampton with Ian Williams and Andy Green on J109’s to brush up on their A-Symmetrical trimming and downwind tactics for Korea. 'It’s important to get used to the tactics of A-symmetrical sailing because there are certain manoeuvres that you can pull off that don’t apply to symmetrical sailing' said Tudur after the training this week. The trim duo has also just come off a victory at an X35 regatta in Holland crewing for the British team 'Ten Racing Group'.
The boats in Korea are new Bakewell White designs that will be unveiled at the Korea International Boat Show taking place the same week as the event. This puts all teams on a level playing field, as everyone will be new to the boats.
As always the young team will have a lot on their plate with the world class line ups in the upcoming Tour events, but if all goes well we could see some good results and a few upsets.
