The Savage 540 Beachcomber Sterndrive was named winner in the Cruiser Trailerable (Aluminium Under 6m) category at this years prestigious 2008 Australian Marine Industries Federation Awards.

'It’s absolutely a worthy winner,' said Ian Stanley, Savage’s Product Manager.

'The 540 Beachcomber is good looking and wonderfully functional with the ever reliable MerCruiser 3.0 litre sterndrive providing that four-stroke torque drivers want.

'When you want to focus on fishing the bow seating is easily removed, it’s a really versatile family boat. So if you want a boat that is ideal for cruising, watersports or fishing, this boat can handle it and will make everyone happy,’ he said.

The Australian Marine Awards highlight the very best of what’s available to Australian boat-lovers, both locally-made and imported.

'All finalists represent excellence in quality and to be a finalist is an outstanding achievement in itself,' said Sherry Donaldson, CEO of the Australian Marine Industries Federation which presents the awards.

A panel of eight judges – four from the media and four independent experts – selected the winners after considering more than 40 aspects of each boat, covering overall impression, presentation, ergonomics, performance and safety.

'The sterndrive makes this boat a lot roomier than its similar-sized competitors,' Ian said. With space for six people, there's also loads of storage for vests, ski ropes and fishing gear, while the new low-profile windscreen complements the boat's sleek good looks, and the cleverly designed walkthrough section allows people to easily get to the bow seats.

The sterndrive also improves the boat's handling characteristics, allowing it to turn and track with ease, while a fibreglass engine box significantly reduces engine noise.
