It's the Mooring Spring that Saves the Boat

by BW Media on 30 Apr 2008
Nereide at work SW
If you are leaving your boat for any length of time in a marina, it's the mooring spring that will protect the vessel in a high gale, when there's no-one there to check the moorings - or when the marina personnel are too busy retrieving boats in trouble to check YOUR boat.

We've found a mooring spring from Nereide that might be just the trick - it can't rust, and it's so simple that you'd wonder why it wasn't thought of before.

The answer is in the new UV resistant marine grade thermoplastic material proven to resist the marine environment, harsh weather conditions and sudden changes in temperature, of which it is made. The makers claim it has a breaking point of 740% of its length, and the boat will not be able to extend it more than 15-20% of its length. It has no moving parts, and can simply be rinsed at the end of a few months of use. It's also silent, so if you are on your boat, you will rock silently, improving the comfort.

It's very simple to install - all that you need is two knots. You do not need to cut the line and there are no shackles or chains.

Here are the appropriate models and recommended mooring line thicknesses:

115 boat up to 3 tons rope 12 - 14 mm
118 boat up to 8 tons rope 16 - 18 mm
122 boat up to 16 tons rope 20 - 22 mm
126 boat up to 30 tons rope 24 - 26 mm
