Grand Banks chooses Skudo coatings for protection

by Carlton Bone on 25 Apr 2008
Skudo peelable coatings prevent damage from UV exposure, dust, dirt and traffic during manufacture and transport. Jeni Bone
Gold Coast company, Skudo Coatings, is celebrating the first overseas order of peelable protective coatings from iconic US boat builder, Grand Banks Yachts for use at its Singapore facility.

The Singapore operations build the Aleutian Series, including 13 GB59 Aleutian Pilot House Boats, four GB65 Aleutian Pilot house boats and three GB72 Aleutian boats per year.

According to Yung Pine Wong from Grand Banks Singapore, the manufacturer will be using the unique peelable protective coatings 'to protect fiberglass surface during construction and shipping and to protect the interior flooring during construction'.

'We have tested a small area of fibreglass surface by using the Skudo peelable coating with UV protection and found to be quite satisfactory. We have also used the peelable protection on floor boards at the entrance of our office with heavy human traffic and found it to be satisfactory as well.

'Both tests had a duration of one month, the former with exposure to sunlight the latter without exposure to sunlight. The peelable coating will greatly reduce damages to the surfaces during construction and during shipping.'

The range of aqueous protective coatings can be sprayed, painted or rolled on and protect non-porous substrates such as fiberglass, glass, timber, porcelain and concrete from scratching, scuffing, chemicals and contamination during the build process and delivery.
