The price of marina berths continues to ‘skyrocket’ on the Gold Coast, with Hope Island Resort Marina (not to be confused with Hope Harbour Marina) manager Marc Hall saying the day was ‘fast approaching’ when a 20-year lease at the marina would cost more than $250,000.
He said berth availability on the Gold Coast was limited and that annual rentals were increasing monthly.
'In Western Australia, parts of Victoria and on Sydney Harbour people are paying unbelievable prices for marina berths and that will happen here,' Mr Hall said.
'The number of people who own boats in South East Queensland has exploded and with State Government legislation restricting the development of more canal subdivisions and marinas, the pressure on available supplies is enormous,' he added.
Mr Hall said the Hope Island Resort Marina had 210 berths. 'And every one is taken,' he said.
'We have a lengthy waiting list of people after a spot as soon as one becomes available,' he said.
