Spirit of Sydney round Tasmania sailing training course.

The Ben Lexcen designed 'Spirit of Sydney', which was sailed solo by
Ian Kiernan around the world is in new hands and over winter is to be
taken across the Southern Ocean to South America. There she'll be
used for charter work by new owner Roger Wallis of Lakes Entrance for
charters to the Antarctic Peninsula, the wild sub antarctic island of
South Georgia (of Shackleton fame) and around the Cape Horn region.

In the meantime she'll be entered in the Sydney Hobart Yacht race and
in January will be running two AYF Safety and Sea Survival Courses as
part of two ten day sail trips (details below).

Interest in charter work from her South American base is good with a
trip to the Antarctic Peninsula confirmed for January 2003 and strong
interest in other charters.

AYF SAFETY & SEA SURVIVAL CERTIFICATE COURSES ON SPIRIT OF SYDNEY - January

TRIP 1 - Hobart to Devonport via the rugged west coast (dep Jan 10 / 10 days).

TRIP 2 - Devonport to Hobart via Deal Island & the east coast (dep
Jan 27 / 10 days).

Cost is $1500 + GST. (Own bunk for trip - no hot bunking)

Participants will come away with an AYF Safety & Sea Survival Course
(SSSC) and a Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
(MROCP) - these trips are a good way to build some quality sea miles
as well as gaining two worthwhile qualifications.

Skipper/Instructor/Assessor Gerry Fitzgerald is a National Assessor
for the Australian Yachting Federation and he helped to write the
Safety Programme. Gerry has designed these trips to combine the best
of sailing in these dramatic areas with the practical and theory for
the two certificate courses.
