Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron held their Summer Twilight series end of season dinner on Saturday night at the Kirribilli Club. The event had a record attendance of over 250 with the guests overflowing from the main dining room and taking over the entire top level of the club.
The series was sponsored for the sixth year in succession by Mariner Boating Holidays. This year the prize is for two people to spend ten days on a gulet in Turkey and a week overland in Turkey including historic Istanbul, Gallipoli and Ephesus.
Trevor Joyce presented the prize to a very excited Peter Muller owner of a Catalina 31.
The yacht is moored at Nothbridge so each Friday afternoon Peter brings the yacht to the Squadron in time to pick up the crew which includes his wife Anne and three other core crew members. Anne does mainsheet on the yacht but she has the Saturday morning “sports run” for the children so she goes home after dinner on the deck at the club. The Spit Bridge remains closed until Saturday so Peter has to anchor for the night. He has spent many lonely nights adjusting anchors and receiving repeated worried mobile calls from Anne when a southerly blows through.
Peter said much as they love sailing a high light for them is the social aspect of dinner at the club after the race and it is well worth the weekly effort.
He was almost speechless when his boat name was drawn from the bucket, but managed to find some words to thank Mariner for the prize. Anne said Sunday that they were so excited they did not manage to get much sleep on Saturday night and are busy planning for their departure in September.
