The Herreshoff Marine Museum/America’s Cup Hall of Fame and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers have finalized the program for The 2008 Classic Yacht Symposium (TM), to be held Friday through Sunday, April 4-6, 2008, in Bristol, Rhode Island.

The program can be viewed on the Museum’s website, www.herreshoff.org, by following the CYS link. Registration is available online at the Museum’s website as well as by phone (401-253-5000) and fax (401-253-6222). Spaces remain for the Symposium programs on Saturday and Sunday and Saturday night’s dinner; one event – the Boat Restoration Shops tour on Friday – is wait list only.

This is the third in a series of biennial Classic Yacht Symposia sponsored by the Museum and SNAME. This year’s Symposium has been expanded to include an additional half day of presentations and the optional Boat Restoration Shops tour (currently wait list only).

In addition to an expanded program, the 2008 Symposium will give participants the opportunity to inspect and board a number of classic boats. Taylor & Snediker’s Herreshoff 560-Class Row Boat will be available for inspection in the Museum’s Hall of Boats; THANIA (ex-TODDY WAX, HMCO.#148), a 1905 cabin launch in its 1950s configuration, will be available for boarding in the Hall of Boats following its just-completed interior restoration. At the Museum’s dock will be the recently restored CORSAIR, a 30-foot, 1925 launch built for J.P. Morgan’s steam yacht CORSAIR III. CORSAIR’s history and partial restoration were documented at the 2006 Classic Yacht Symposium; her story will be completed at 2008’s Symposium.

The Symposium also includes a welcoming gathering Friday evening and a dinner Saturday night, featuring Dublin’s Hal Sisk as keynote speaker.

For further information on the Symposium and to obtain details about the events visit the Herreshoff Marine Museum website, www.herreshoff.org, and follow the CYS link, or contact Teri Souto, t.souto(at)herreshoff.org, tel. 401-253-5000.
