by chicagoyachtclub.org on 5 Mar 2008
Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac - CYC Race to Mackinac SW
The Chicago Yacht Club announced today that it has closed entries to the 2008 Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, presented by Lands' End Business Outfitters. 2008 marks the 100th running of 'the Mac,' the world's longest annual freshwater sailing distance race. The 100th Race will start off Chicago's lakefront on July 19, 2008.

Chicago Yacht Club has already received over 460 entries for the Race, breaking the old record of 325 entries set back in 1998. 'We have received a tremendous response to the 100th Race. We are honored that so many skippers and crews have decided to join us for this historic event, and we are working very hard to provide a world-class event for everyone to enjoy.' Greg Miarecki, chair of the 2008 Mackinac Committee, commented. 'Unfortunately, we did not have space for all of the sailors that wanted to compete this year. We regret that we could not accommodate all interested sailors this year, but hope that those sailors will consider joining us for a future Race,' Miarecki added.

Sailing enthusiasts around the world will be able to watch the 100th Race online, as Chicago Yacht Club will be placing position transponders on all entered boats. 'Anyone, whether they are located in Chicago, Mackinac Island, or on the other side of the world, will be able to track the hourly progress of any of the 460 boats,' Miarecki explained. 'We are very much looking forward to bringing the excitement of the Race to millions of people around the world.'

Chicago Yacht Club is proud to host this world-famous event in sailing, and welcomes you to follow all of the action this July. To learn more about the 100th running of the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, go to the official website http://www.chicagoyachtclub.org/racetomackinac.
