Groupama 3 - so near but so far

Groupama 3, the 32metre trans-oceanic multihull, remains outside Otago harbour tonight, apparently not allowed to enter by port authorities.

Sources in Dunedin told Sail-World that Groupama 3 had arrived outside the harbour at around 1630hrs today, Friday, but was prohibited from entering due to container ship movements.

The giant multihull was still inverted, and prepartions have been made by her salvage team to right the yacht when she is bought alongside.

However the calm conditions that have prevailed since her salvage are soon to end with a rising NE (onshore) breeze with a wind warning posted.

Such conditions could cause damage to the upturned yacht, and many around the waterfront were unable to understand why the yacht, towed by the Clan MacLeod had not been allowed to enter on arrival.
