Rain squalls delay racing - Day 3 Laser Masters

by Di Pearson on 19 Feb 2008
Laser Worlds 2008 SW
Rain squalls arrived at Terrigal around 11.20am delaying racing at the Laser Masters World Championships this morning.

Race Officials have been monitoring the weather all morning and held boats ashore. It was a good call, as presently very little can be seen through the gray of the morning.

Discussion revolved around coffee and fish and chips – served locally at the Haven, filled in waiting time for officials, whilst the students from Kincumber High School, here voluntarily to help with the retrieval of boat trolleys, played football and cricket on the beach in the rain!

The Radial fleets are due on the course first in the Club Marine races and a number of boats are rigged and ready to go from the beach at The Haven.

Presently, breeze in Terrigal is approximately 3 knots from the east/nor-east and the Bureau of Meteorology predicts winds from the east/nor-east at 10 to15 knots on 1 to 1.5 metre seas and a 1.5 to 2 metre south-easterly swell.

The squall is expected to pass fairly quickly, and when it does, Principal Race Officer Tony Denham plans to get the 367 boats out and racing. Denham suggested now was a good time for sailors to have a good read of their Sailing Instructions.

Once again, competitors wait patiently ashore, used to the vagaries of the weather.
