Sail a Tall Ship out of Portsmouth for a day

The two-mast topsail schooner J.R. Tolkien SW

If you fancy yourself in the Johnny Depp role than the latest Tall Ship Experience Days being run out of Portsmouth Harbour this summer could be just the thing. Red Sky Sailing has launched a series of 15 dates in summer 2008 for Tall Ship Experience Days, departing from Portsmouth.

The days are open to individual bookers of all ages and no experience is necessary. Passengers can help the crew sail the ship or just sit back and enjoy a fantastic day on the water.

Two ships are available on selected weekend dates in June, July, August and September. In June and September it is the tall ship ‘Artemis’, a three-mast barque, and in July and August it will be the two-mast topsail schooner ‘J.R. Tolkien’ (see above).

Tall Ship Experience Days cost £149 per person, including lunch. Departing from Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, at 10am the ship will sail around the Solent area and return to Portsmouth at 5 pm.

Passengers will be invited to help set and stow the sails, manoeuvre the ship and take the helm. And for those looking for more of a thrill you may also get the chance to climb the mast, subject to the captain’s authorisation.

Dates for 2008

June 7, 8, 14 and 15
July 19, 20, 26 and 27
August 2, 3, 9 and 10
September 6, 7 and 13
