Athletes for a Better World and Great Sailing DVD

by Dick Enersen on 15 Feb 2008
2008 Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup Finalists Dick Enersen http://dickenersen.smugmug.com

I’d like another moment of your time to draw your attention to a great organization, Athletes for a Better World, which I helped found ten years ago.

In the simplest terms, we are helping save the world through sportsmanship and citizenship, as outlined in our Code For Living (below). ABW provides teaching tools for all age levels, an online development program, and recognition, and inspiration, by way of the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cups, just awarded at our annual banquet in Atlanta.

Please have a look at our web site, http://www.abw.org and let me know if you would like to be added our mailing list. For the record, we are a non-denominational 501(c)(3) corporation.

The Code for Living

Life Principles Learned Through Sports

Because I am a role model and have the opportunity and responsibility to make a difference in the lives of others, I commit to this Code. I will take responsibility and appropriate actions when I fail to live up to it.

As an individual:

I will develop my skills to the best of my ability and give my best effort in practice and competition.

I will compete within the spirit and letter of the rules of my sport.

I will respect the dignity of every human being, and will not be abusive or dehumanizing of anyone either as an athlete or as a fan.

As a member of a team:

I will place team goals ahead of personal goals.

I will be a positive influence on the relationships on the team.

I will follow the team rules established by the coach.

As a member of society:

I will display caring and honorable behavior off the field and be a positive influence in my community and world.

I will give of my time, skills, and money as I am able for the betterment of my community and world.

Sailing History - The Greatest Races - on DVD

Offshore Productions is re-releasing our old sailing films on DVD, mostly because the medium is so much better to look at than VHS/Beta. So far, the available titles are: 'The Best Defense,' Ted Turner's '77 victory, 'Heavy Weather Slalom,' Lasers in 30K in front of St. Francis in '73 and 'Long Beach Olympiad,' US Olympic sailors medal in every class. We have a website (OffshoreProd.com) which is not yet very well developed, but if you have any interest in 'Offshore classics' please let me know and I'll keep you posted.
