Powerboat P1 Management Ltd has further strengthened its management team with the appointment of Andy Hindley as its Race and Technical Director. Currently Racing Director of the Volvo Ocean Race, Andy will take up his new position in early March with responsibility for the operational delivery of all P1 races which, in 2008, includes 14 World Championship rounds.

A graduate in Physics and Electronics, Hindley has been responsible for all syndicate and athlete contracts, race management, team liaison, on board media and television delivery and host venue interaction at the Volvo Ocean Race. His seven years' experience in managing every aspect of race operations for one of sailing's most prestigious global events will be invaluable as Powerboat P1 continues to establish its credentials as a world class powerboating championship.

'Andy's appointment is another clear message that Powerboat P1 is prepared to invest in the high calibre of personnel necessary to continue to grow our championship as a dynamic sports and entertainment platform,' explains Jim O'Toole, Managing Director of P1 Management Ltd. 'He will add a new dimension in the delivery of events to teams, venues and technical partners and his experience will be invaluable as Powerboat P1 gears up for another season of world class competition.'

Before joining the Volvo, Hindley skippered the yacht 'Save the Children' to third place in the 1996-7 BT Global Challenge round and, in December 2000, was navigator and second-in-command of the ill-fated giant catamaran, Team Philips, which sank in a freak storm, resulting in a mid-Atlantic rescue for the crew.

'The growth of P1 from a standing-start in 2003 has been dramatic,' commented Andy. 'I have watched developments with interest and am very excited to be joining the management team at such an exciting time. I'm looking forward to contributing to the further development as we build the event into a truly global series and the P1 brand into an exciting and in demand property.'

'We are very proud that our colleague, Andy Hindley, has been appointed to this exciting and demanding role,' said Jeremy Troughton, Operations Director for the Volvo Ocean Race. 'Andy has worked with the Volvo Ocean Race as Racing Director for seven years and this is an opportunity for him to use his considerable skills to great effect in a different arena. We are extremely sorry to say goodbye to him after such an enjoyable and productive period, but we of course wish him well in his new job and we will be following the P1 Powerboat circuit with great interest.'
