The NS14 Nationals held at Black Rock YC in Melbourne had a bit of something for everyone over the course of the regatta with winds from light to drifting up to over 25 knots and from every point on the compass. The reaches on the southerly swell were awesome and the regatta was at all times challenging. The competition was strong all through the fleet and intense at the front.
In the end Hugh Tait and Tara McCall on Tigger Too were too strong for Scott Day and Holly Norris on Salty Lips with consistent performance in the heavier conditions. Steve Jones and Sharyn Calwell on Pawnstar came third after performing well earlier on. Henry Kernot with Nathan Warner on Captain Planet was the leading youth skipper and Karen Davis with Katherine Davis on Go with the Flow was the first female skipper.
First on handicap went to Michael Tait and Jack Breislin on Tigger followed by David Aylward and Charlotte Holliday on Beach 25 and Tim Dunstan and Christina Stewart on Uproar.
This was the first major regatta since the reference to age was removed from the rules and the first with carbon masts. It also saw the introduction of a new hull type and the sail numbers reaching 2000.
