Francis Joyon sailing on IDEC2 crossed the longitude of Cape Horn at the southern tip of the South American continent last night at 23 hours, 31 minutes (French time).
Joyon shattered the time of Ellen MacArthur - He took 35 days 12 hours and 36 minutes - By comparison, Ellen MacArthur, current holder of the world record for circumnavigation under sail alone, had reached the same point in 44 days 23 hours 36 minutes, best time ever achieved alone on the distance.
Joyon smashed this performance with 9 days, 11 hours in advance.
