Seawind Catamarans have launched the 100th Seawind 1000, marking a huge milestone for Seawind and Australian Yacht and Catamaran production. On Monday, 22nd
of October 2001, “Spirit of Australia” was unveiled before a 200 strong crowd made up of suppliers, Seawind boat owners, Seawind Employees, plus members of the
Illawarra Business Community at the Seawind Factory located in Bellambi, Wollongong ( just 1 hr south of Sydney).

With the event coming just one week after the Company took out the major Awards of “Exporter of the Year” and
“Business of the Year” at the annual Illawarra Business Awards ceremony, the official “launching” of the 100th
Seawind 1000 was well attended by many Seawind friends including Wollongong’s Lord Mayor Cr George Harrison,
Wollongong Lord Mayor, NSW State MP David Campbell and National Maritime Chairman Mr Mark Bethwaite. (See

After conducting guided tours through the factory to show the 200 plus guests how Seawind Catamarans are built,
the company’s CEO , Richard Ward welcomed everyone and gave a brief history of the company and of the actual
Seawind 1000 model itself.Cr Harrison and Mr Campbell also spoke and congratulated the company after which
Mark Bethwaite made the “launching” official and the new boat with its spectacular graphics and name “Spirit of Australia” was unveiled.

Since then, Spirit of Australia has competed in the 3rd Seawind Regatta held on the 27th of October across Pittwater, just north of Sydney. Twenty four Seawind cats
participated in the event making it one of the largest regattas of a single class cruising catamaran in the world.

“Spirit of Australia”, the 100th Seawind 1000, is a very special boat not only because of its numeric placement, but also
because of the many additional features, some of which have never been offered on a Seawind 1000 in the past. These
include:

· Veneer Saloon Table with Carbon Fibre Trimming
· Cork flooring within the Cockpit
· Blue Racing Mainsail and Jib
· Screacher Sail with soft furler for extra performance
· APEX Bowsprit for additional strength
· Owner’s Stateroom with office and wardrobe
· Centre Mounted Chartplotter
· Targa Seat and Helm Seat Cushions
· Plus many more…

Seawind Catamarans, with support from Qantas, will also soon be offering a holiday to “Cruise the Caribbean” on a Seawind 1000 as part of celebrating Launch 100.

More details will be in future issues of Multihulls World Magazine, Australian Yachting, Australian Sailing, and Cruising Helmsman.
