The National Bank has recently come on board as the naming rights sponsor for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s most prestigious youth sailing event.

The National Bank International Youth Match Racing Championships, to be held on the Waitemata Harbour from January 23-27 2008, will showcase the finest international youth sailors under the age of 21 years in four competitive days of sailing.

Gavin Brady and Cameron Appleton are among many top New Zealand sailors who have previously won this youth championships.

'This event provided me with an excellent platform and experience for my future yachting career,' says Gavin Brady, four times America’s Cup
participant.

The National Bank is thrilled to be part of this exciting event that fosters our future sailing stars.

'We are very pleased to enter into this partnership with the RNZYS and help grow the professional image of youth yachting within New Zealand,' says Senior Sponsorship Manager Stuart Robertson The International Youth Match Racing Regatta started in 1990 and quickly became regarded as the unofficial World Youth Championships of Match Racing.

Yacht Clubs from around the world are invited to compete in the series comprising of a double round robin, semi-finals and finals. The racing is
always very tough and this is an event that everybody wants to win. Many of the young sailors who have competed in this event previously have now cemented places in America’s Cup Syndicates, Volvo teams as well as achieving very high World Match Race Rankings.

RNZYS Sailing Manager Sara Roberts, 'We are so pleased to have The National Bank onboard as our naming rights sponsor. The competition is
always tough and the 2008 event will be no exception. This regatta boasts an envious honours board of international youth champions which have gone onto illustrious sailing careers, and are now common names on the match racing circuit. We are looking forward working with The National Bank early next year.'

New Zealand will have at least three youth teams competing in the event in January.

The Championships will also feature youth teams from Sydney, Perth and Malaysia.
