After almost three months out of the water, two-time line honours winner and race record holder Wild Oats XI will install its long-awaited new mast on Thursday 6 December 2007.
The 45 metre mast will be installed by crane into the yacht, which will be berthed at Woolwich Dock.
This year Wild Oats XI is aiming for a third consecutive Rolex Sydney Hobart line honours win, a feat only achieved once before, in the 1946, 1947 and 1948 Sydney Hobarts.
The yacht was dismasted during racing at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup off the coast of Porto Cervo, Spain in September and has been undergoing repairs since returning to Sydney.
The installation of the new mast and rigging will allow Wild Oats XI to finally get back on the water this weekend, just three weeks ahead of the Boxing Day start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart.
Latest news - due to Sydney's inclement weather the mast insertion has been delayed until further notice.
