In the steps of Matt Damon at Imperia Winter Reg

by Sail-world.com/uk on 27 Nov 2007
Matt Damon The Bourne Identity, Oneglia SW
Following in the footsteps of Matt Damon on the Oneglia docks in one week the Imperia Winter Regatta 2007 will start with a growing number of entries and already 13 Nations are represented: ITA, SUI, GBR, FIN, MON, FRA, CRO, AUT, GER, SWE, LTU, GRE and SLO.

Also crews from Turkey, Poland and Netherlands are expected to be present for a new great edition of the event.

On the same docks where competitors at the Regatta will put their boats and will prepare for racing, a very famous person walked during the shooting of a famed movie. So, take a look to Matt Damon walking under the same cranes you will see at Imperia Winter Regatta 2007!

Laser and RS:X will start on Sunday 2 December: an interesting fleet of Laser and a small but high-level fleet of RS:X will feature the first part of Imperia Winter Regatta.

A very strong fleet in 470 is going to race at IWR: already 40 boats have entered the event, and it is expected to be a very competitive event for this class! Also a very international 420 fleet with a lot of strong crew coming from all over europe are expected. The Greek team with eight boats have already entered the Imperia Winter Regatta.

IWR will be hosted in the old port of Oneglia, in the east part of the town of Imperia. The choice of Oneglia is due mainly to the massive works in progress in Porto Maurizio for building the new marina. Oneglia is the east part of Imperia and it's famous around the world for the genuine Olive Oil and Pasta firstly, and for its old commercial harbour, very nice and suggestive.

This so nice port will be a wonderful frame for this year edition that will be featured by fantastic races on sea and, ashore, a mix of hundreds years of marine tradition, the sport, the technics and a touch of glamour with the famous hats by Borsalino!

Sponsor for the Imperia Winter Regatta is Borsalino, the name of a hat company known particularly for its Fedoras.

Established in 1857, Borsalino produces felt from Belgian rabbit fur at its factory in Alessandria, Italy. Among the wearers of the world famous hat are : Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Jamiroquai, Naomi Campbell, Lapo Elkann and more.

Lately the company also produces different lines of products including motorbike helmets, perfums and also a superbike!

News and surprises are not finished: the suggestive scenario of the old port of Oneglia will be the frame for a 'special Borsalino prize' both 470 male and 470 female winners will leave Imperia wearing a prestigious Borsalino! (sorry no motorbike).
