Global Yacht Racing are finishing off a fantastic season of yacht racing with their fourth Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race. This iconic 630nm race is the perfect way to end a year of racing and the New Year’s celebrations in Hobart are always a great climax to the end of the race.
There are three crew places onboard the Global Yacht Racing campaign joining a crew of up to fourteen racing a Beneteau 47.7. The crew are made up of people from all walks of life and nationalities who have a range of racing and sailing experience but who all have a sense of adventure and desire to challenge themselves on this ocean race. If you want to be part of the crew on this challenging race send your application to info@globalyachtracing.com or check out www.globalyachtracing.com
The crew fee includes two weeks of comprehensive race training on Sydney Harbour and the NSW coast and all yacht costs, race entry fees vittles etc. Skipper Richard Falk is a qualified RYA yachtmaster instructor and examiner and has vast experience in training novice crews for racing having competed in four Rolex Sydney to Hobart Races and last year racing around the world. He said 'I am looking forward to revisiting my home turf and competing in my favourite race event in the annual calendar, we have a very strong crew who I am confident will perform well regardless of conditions.'
This year Global Yacht Racing are racing a Beneteau 47.7. This great yacht is well equipped for racing both inshore around the cans and offshore. With 10 dedicated sea berths and a competitive IRC rating she is ideal for offshore racing.
The yacht is a well known name on the Australian racing circuit and boasts three Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht races, three Lord Howe Island races, three Mooloolaba races, two Gold Coast races, three CYCA Winter Series, Hamilton Island race weeks and many twilights on its sailing CV.
The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is one of the toughest offshore yacht races in the world. From the east coast of Australia with its classic north easterly sea breezes that drive the fleet at breakneck speeds whilst surfing under Spinnaker, to the harsh conditions often encountered in the Bass Straight, the race is no easy ride.
The strong ‘Southerly Busters’ bring big winds, and even bigger seas, ensuring that crews taking part in the Hobart face 630NM of extreme sailing. Teamwork and commitment are of paramount importance.
Global Yacht Racing’s world wide racing program offers ordinary individuals the opportunity to become part of an outstanding yacht racing team, campaigning in major yacht races around the globe. It is a complete package of sailing and race training in skills for both 'round the cans' and across oceans. No previous sailing experience is required.
