Seawind Catamarans, the largest production catamaran builder in the Southern Hemisphere chalked up its biggest tally of orders for a single boat show at this year’s Sydney event, held at Darling Harbour.

Orders for 12 new cats – eight multi award-winning Seawind 1160s and four new 35ft Seawind 1000XLs – will see the company busy until early 2009.

'With only two models on display this year, and a small, enthusiastic sales team, this result helps cement our position as Australia’s pre-eminent cruising catamaran manufacturer,' Seawind managing director, Richard Ward, says.

The Sydney Boat Show success followed close on the heels of the 2007 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, where the company secured sales of ten new boats.

Following the Sydney show, another four orders for the Seawind 1160 were taken at the Annapolis Sail Boat Show in the USA.

With increasing Australian demand and growing interest from US and other international buyers, Seawind has committed to life production from one boat per fortnight to an average of one a week by August 2008.

Construction of another factory at the company’s site at Bellambi, north of Wollongong is due to start within the next few months, helping Seawind meet this ambitious production target.

The sales success at Sydney, adding to Seawind’s 25 years of continual production, was toasted by upwards of 60 Seawind cat owners at a celebratory cocktail function held on the final evening of the Sydney Boat Show.

'There’s definitely growing interest in wide multi-hull boating – not only here in Australia, but around the world – and this is showing in our stronger order book,' Seawind’s marketing and sales manager, Brent Vaughan says.

Birds of prey. Insects. All of them airborne? How does it all apply here? Time to find out! All are airborne. The first three are birds of prey. The last one is an insect. All are so completely different. The first three have also had their name, formidable qualities and fantastic reputations applied to fantastic aircraft made by Boeing.

A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
