Gitana 80 and Generali lead TJV Sunday morning

Loick Peyron and Jean Levaillant on Gitana Eighty, Yan Elies and Sébastien Audigane on Generali, together with Bernard Stamm and Tanguy Cariou, Chiminee Poujoulat, are the three boats leading the Transat Jacques Vabre on day two for the monohulls.

In the class 40, Télécom Italia of Giovanni Soldini and Pietro D'Ali leads, just ahead of Tanguy de Lamotte and Nick Bubb on Novedia Set Environnement. Third place is ATAO Audio System of Dominique Vittet and Thierry Chabagny.

For the Brits, Jonny Malbon and Graham Tourell, Artemis are in 7th place, Mike Golding and Bruno Dubis, Ecover III are 8th, three miles off the leading group and Samantha Davies and Jeanne Gregoire, Roxy, are in ninth place. Aviva of Dee Caffari and Nigel King is 11th place, less than four miles from the leaders.

In the 40 class, Fujifilm of Alex Bennett and Ifor Pedley is seventh, with Clarke Offshore Racing of Simon Clarke and David Lindsay in 8th.

The two classes of multihulls - ORMA 60 foot trimarans and Class 50 multihulls - will leave the Paul Vatine Basin today for a start planned at 13:02hrs. The ORMA fleet will comprise of five boats and the Class 50 of eight.

The skippers are pretty happy with weather conditions that will give them a not-so-harsh entry into the race and offer a nice ride south.
