Several ports in the Bay of Palma have been seriously affected due to the storm which cast the town into total blackness this week and washed boats up on the shore.
An estimated 200 people have been injured to varying degrees, three seriously, due to the large amount of damage, as stated by local police sources.
Apparently the storm crossed the region from the south to the north, with winds of up to 109km per hour. Although at present there are no reported injuries at sea, some ports in the region suffered damage. In the Real Club Nautico de Palma, the 25 metre sailboat Arrayan was cause for alarm when it was hitting the dock where the gas was stored, because of the sudden rise in sea level.
In the same area, a floating pontoon was detached by the current and a person was taken to hospital after being injured by a collision with after a large wave hit the port.
Sources from the yacht club say the wind untied some of the boats that were moored there. Reports from the Club Maritimo San Antonio de la Playa say that at least three boats were washed up on the shore by the strong winds.
