SEIKO Australia is proud to announce their new partners from the sailing world; Middle Harbour Yacht Club, Woollahra Sailing Club and the 49er Team skippered by Clynton Wade-Lehman.
SEIKO has long been associated with the demanding world of sailing, and through these innovative partnerships SEIKO is extending their commitment to sailing in Australia and leveraging the rights and assets obtained to promote their much-anticipated new marine watch collection; Velatura.
SEIKO has a rich history of timekeeping at major events on both the global and national stage – including notable associations with the sailing world. In 1987, SEIKO was the Official Timekeeper of the America’s Cup in Perth, and in 1992 continued the tradition as Official Timekeeper of the yachting component within the Barcelona Olympics.
In early 2007, SEIKO (International) announced it’s partnership with the International 49er Class, and has recently been seen in action with sailors at the ISAF World Championships in Portugal and the European Championships in Sicily.
SEIKO is the Naming Rights sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the newly created SEIKO Velatura Spring Series at Woollahara Sailing Club; a series of 8 races from Sunday 16th September to Sunday 14th October. The partnership with the 49er Team (Clynton Wade-Lehman and Joe Dekock) spans the summer sailing season of SEIKO Velatura and the 49er Team 2007/2008. SEIKO Velatura is the timepiece of skippered by Clynton Wade-Lehman choice for the Team, ensuring they hit the mark at the exact second of the start.
SEIKO’s partnership with Middle Harbour Yacht Club is a long term commitment. SEIKO is proud to be the Official Timekeeper for the Club, as well as for the SEIKO Velatura Twilight Series (1st November 07 - 27th March 08), the SEIKO Velatura Ladies Skippers Race (21st October) and the Savills Short Ocean Racing Championship (24-25 November).
'SEIKO will be supplying time keeping equipment for all three partnerships in the form of innovative and refined clocks, as well as watches from the new high-performance Velatura collection', said Mr. Stuart Smith, Group Marketing Manager SEIKO Australia.
Since the creation in 1965 of its first diving watch, SEIKO has many times accepted the greatest challenge to the watchmaker's skill - the challenge of building watches that can withstand the demands of ocean life. In September 2007, SEIKO Australia launched Velatura, the marine watch collection, and thus continues a several decade tradition of watches built to take the strain of life on the high sea.
Catering for not only professional and recreational sailors, but for men and women who aspire to a ‘lifestyle of the oceans’, Velatura joins SEIKO’s Premium Collection of timepieces. Velatura is the watch collection associated with the International 49er Class partnership and Mr. Stuart Smith, says, 'SEIKO is proud to support this dynamic sport and will continue to evolve its future Velatura designs based on the needs, advice and experience of the word's best 49er sailors.'
