Victorian Governor to launch Premier series.

The Governor of Victoria, John Landy, AC, MBE, will launch Yachting Victoria’s inter-club Premiership and Timberland Range Series at the Royal Yacht Club of
Victoria at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 17, 2001.
This keenly contested annual event on Port Phillip Bay has been dubbed the ‘battle of the keel boat clubs’ and will bring together many top competitors
including Sydney/Hobart race veterans. Main contender, and Australian Off Shore Committee Chairman, Graeme Ainley and his boat Bacardi will be pitting his
skills against the Chutzpah crew led by Bruce Taylor.
To celebrate the Year of the Volunteer, Yachting Victoria together with the series sponsor Timberland will also be acknowledging the work of the many
volunteers who contribute to the success of this premier Port Phillip Bay event and the Governor will present commemorative plaques to the commodores of the
five participating clubs –
Royal Yacht Club of Victoria
Hobson’s Bay Yacht Club
Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron
Royal Brighton Yacht Club
Sandringham Yacht Club
Classic sailing craft Sayonara will be on stand-by to take the Governor on a short cruise on Hobson's Bay.
The Timberland Range Series commences on October 20 with the first race taking place off the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria and conclude on March 23.
