More than 500 attend Expo ’07 as Mercury Marine flexes its muscles.

The Royal Pines Resort, on the Queensland Gold Coast provided an idyllic setting for Mercury Marine’s 2007 Expo, with more than 500 dealers, exhibitors, suppliers and media attending.

It was Mercury Marine’s annual event involving the release of new products scheduled for the 07/08 summer, combined with outboard and stern drive workshops, marketing seminars and plenty of social networking.

Showing its understanding of Australia’s importance to its market, Expo ’07 attracted the top echelon of the company’s management, including Dusty McCoy, Chairman and CEO of the Brunswick Corporation, Patrick Mackey, President, Mercury Marine Products and Services, John Pfeifer, President, Brunswick Asia Pacific and John Temple, General Manager, Mercury Marine, Asia Pacific.

Scores of Mercury products were on display; Mercury outboard engines, MerCruiser stern drives, Quicksilver inflatables and accessories and Savage and Bayliner boats, to name just a sampling.

The company’s top executives impressed all who attended with their friendly approach.

As Chairman and CEO, Dusty McCoy told an assembled audience of dealers, “Tell us what we can do, what you need us to do to make your business more profitable.”

To say his approach went down well would be an understatement.

The media was well catered for, with Marketing Services Manager Anthony Brown ensuring all media needs in the way of press information were freely available.

He also played the gracious host when media representatives enjoyed a five-star lunch in the Royal Pines 23rd floor restaurant.

The array of new products scheduled for the market place proved impressive.

There were so many we’re not going to table them all in Powerboat-World this week, but will highlight the more interesting releases over the next few issues.

Just to keep the pot boiling, so to speak, one innovative new product we were introduced to will really make boating enthusiasts sit up and take notice.

It’s called Axius, and just to maintain your interest consider this; how about dual stern drive engines, the lower drive units or ‘legs’ operating independently of each other.

This system proved to be the star of the ’07 Expo and we’ll reveal all the details right here next week.

The ’07 Expo really was a case of Mercury Marine flexing its muscles and living up to its slogan, ‘#1 on the water.’
