The approaching Gold Coast Boat Show, scheduled for the weekend of October 26-28, is expected to attract more than 80 exhibitors comprising the top manufacturers and marine retailers along the famous ‘tourist strip.’

Organised by Marine Queensland, the show is set down for the Carrara Sports Complex, virtually right in the centre of the Gold Coast and easily accessed from all directions.

Marine Queensland General Manager, Barry Hibberd, said members had indicated they would support the show 'with a fantastic display.'

'This is the only industry-owned and operated boat show on the Gold Coast and it has been arranged following many requests from Marine Queensland members,' Hibberd said.

There was a Gold Coast Boat Show many years ago, staged at the now demolished Sunland Shopping Centre, but it fell by the wayside and was eventually overlooked in favour of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Although some larger craft will be on display at Carrara, the show is expected to highlight the popularity of trailer boats throughout the region.

More than 80 percent of the vessels registered to Gold Coast owners are less than 6.0-metres, according to Marine Queensland statistics.

'The Gold Coast is also Queensland’s largest boating community, with more than 13 percent of all boats registered,' Hibberd declared.

'It is a driving force in the annual growth of Queensland boat ownership, currently increasing at six percent annually.'

With the convenient backdrop of the Nerang River, the Gold Coast Boat Show will offer some spectacular entertainment for show visitors.

The entertainment will include a fishing expo staged by angling guru Bill Corten, complete with expert presenters, water skiing and wake boarding demonstrations, a live weigh-in for a planned Bream Tournament and a sail-hoisting competition.

'I expect the show to display all the products a family would need to get out and about and enjoy our fabulous waterways,' Hibberd added.

'It represents an excellent opportunity for Gold Coasters to check out the latest boats, accessories and fishing tackle all at the one venue before the beginning of summer.

'I can promise a grand outdoor atmosphere at Carrara, with the exhibits supported by the planned entertainment and ample food and drink outlets to ensure an enjoyable day’s outing for the family.'

Ample on-site parking is available for the price of a gold coin donation.

The show will open at 10am and trade through to 6pm on all three days.

Admission charges are $10 (single adult) and $8 (students and pensioners) with children under 12-years admitted free.
