Firefly Open meeting at Chipstead SC

by PR on 12 Sep 2007
A distinct lack of breeze greeted the competitors as they arrived at Chisptead Sailing Club in Kent on Sunday 9 September to compete for the 49th running of Walter Smith Cup, part of the Firefly classes M25 Travellers series.

Fifteen Fireflies were in attendance for this one day event and throughout the day the wind came, went, and luckily returned which tested the skills, sense of humour and patience of all the fleet.

Three races were sailed and the first and third were won by Peter Cook and Janet Exelby from Frampton on Severn SC which enabled them to take home the trophy. Nigel Wakefield and Emily Saunderson won the second race and with top four positions throughout the day secured second overall. Mark Tait and Sally Wakefield, also from Wessex Exiles finished third overall.

After the racing the fleet enjoyed some fantastic cakes and the Chipstead class captain handed out some impressive prizes.

The next event of the M25 trophy will take place at Upper Thames SC this coming weekend the 15/16 September.

Many thanks to Chipstead for running an enjoyable days racing which, as always in the Firefly Class, produced a very close result.
