SA’s largest marina spurs $8 million sales boom

The increasing demand for marina berths to accommodate larger boats has been met, with South Australia’s premier boating club announcing a $16 million marina development that will be home to the State’s largest recreational boats.

The Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia’s Marina West at North Haven will comprise 73 marina berths ranging in size from 11 metres to 35 metres, and prices set from just under $100,000 and up to $500,000.

Despite only being on the market since late August, Marina West has already received overwhelming interest from boating enthusiasts and investors, with 50% of the berths snapped up, equating to $7.98 million in pre sales.

Cruising Yacht Club of SA General Manager, Craig Evans, said with larger boats becoming more popular Marina West satisfies the growing demand.

'We’re finding people are wanting to upgrade their boats but have nowhere suitable to store them on the water, so a lot of interest initially has come from existing CYCSA members,' Craig said.

'We’ve been overwhelmed with the high level of interest and are confident this will continue, making way for an exciting new era at the Club.'

Since it was opened in 1977, the CYCSA has built an enviable reputation, winning numerous national and international awards.

The premises at North Haven cover more than 36 hectares, with the new Marina West taking the total number of marina berths to 313, together with 150 hard standing berths. Currently, the maximum berth size at North Haven is 18 metres. CYCSA also operates the 110-berth marina at Port Vincent on the Yorke Peninsula.

'Marina West will provide a safe and secure location just a short distance from CYCSA’s existing facilities,' Craig said. 'And unlike other marinas, members are able to sell or lease their marina berths due to CYCSA’s unique freehold of the land, providing more flexibility.'

It’s anticipated dredging for the new marina basin will commence prior to summer, with completion earmarked for mid to late 2008.

Those interested in securing a berth at Marina West are invited to contact the Cruising Yacht Club of SA on (08) 8248 4222 or by visiting www.cycsa.com.au
