Renowned North-U Womens Matchracing Clinic in NZ

The Women's International Match Racing Association has joined forces
with North U to offer a series of match racing clinics world wide.


One of these will be a three day Women's Match Racing Clinic scheduled for Auckland, September 14 - 16. The instructors will be two of the top womens international matchracing sailors Katie Spithill (AUS) and Liz Baylis (USA). Baylis has competed in three ISAF Womens World Matchring Championships and was the 2002 world champion. She is currently ranked 13th in the ISAF rankings. She recently won the Mayor's Cup in Long Beach. Katie Spithill is one of the rising stars on the Womensmatch racing circuit enjoying an ISAF ranking of 3rd, she finished second in the 2007 ISAF Womens World Matchracing Championships.

The clinics are part of a world-wide program to encourage interest in women's match racing, where WIMRA will bring some of the sport's top match racers to share their expertise with the growing group of women sailors looking to win in match racing.

The curriculum includes two full days of training, drills, and races; and concludes with a day long (grade 5) regatta.

The Women's International Match Racing Association has joined forces with North U to offer a series of match racing clinics world wide. To encourage interest in women's match racing, WIMRA will bring some of the sport's top match racers, including Liz Baylis, Dave Perry and Katie Spithill, to share their expertise with the growing group of women sailors looking to win in match racing.

As WIMRA Executive Director Liz Baylis explains, 'We've seen a ground swell of interest in match racing and we are working to ride that wave. Our intent is to attract sailors and racers who are curious to learn about this exciting facet of our sport. At the conclusion of each clinic, we predict that they will be converted from 'sailors' to 'match racers' and be excited about joining the ranks of match racers competing around the world.'
