New General Manager
Middle Harbour Yacht Club

To All Members

The Flag Officers and Board of MHYC are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Eric Wegman to the full time position of General Manager, effective as from Tuesday August 14th 2007.

Eric’s appointment follows the completion of the agreed term of Mr Peter Hemery, our previous part time General Manager. During Peter’s time with us, we gained extensively from his vast knowledge, connections within the Australian sailing world in general and yacht club operations in particular. Further good progress was made in the operations and enhancements of our Club.

Eric is coming to the Club with a very impressive background and skill set appropriate to the challenges of the job. He has we believe a personality style and level of commitment that will fit well into the culture of the Club, and will add very positively as an active member of the team to the strengths we have already in place through our staff , Flag officers and Board.

Most recently General Manager of the Panmure Yacht Club in Auckland, Eric has had extensive experience in Public Affairs, hotel management, marketing and tourism and has a particular interest in all of the key areas we have identified as our priorities.

A Dutchman by birth, Eric is a keen yachtsman, having moved to New Zealand early in his life and resident there until now. His qualifications include an Executive MBA degree from the Auckland University.

Married to Deanna, originally from Melbourne, and with two children aged 7 and 9, Eric is now well into the process of relocating into the Sydney area and is “ ready, able and rearing to go “ with his new job at MHYC.

It is our pleasure to extend to Eric on behalf of all members, both our congratulations and best wishes on his appointment, and to welcome him to the Club.

Eric’s base working hours will be from Tuesday through Saturday of each week, with attendance at other times, including Sunday’s as necessary to accommodate special events and activities.

Good Luck Eric .

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
