Craftinsure Firefly Nationals - Day 4

by Barney Smith on 8 Aug 2007
Race 4, the RAFSA trophy, of the Craftinsure 61st Firefly Nationals at Weymouth took place on a day of contrasting conditions. The 55 boat fleet was sent out in bright sunshine but by start time grey clouds had puffed up over the cliffs leading to some serious windshifts on the course and even a sighting of rain later in the day.

Once again Steve Tylecote and Sally Wilson sailing 'Grasshopper' led from the front taking the winners gun and their fourth trophy of the week. Behind the championship leaders the rest of the fleet enjoyed a fantastic two hour. Pathfinders Jamie McEwen and Jonquil Pelletier took full advantage of the power of the right to finish second with Paul Kameen and Laura Smith carrying on with their consistent approach to the week and finishing third.

Throughout the day a number of competitors were send exhibiting signs of tiredness quite possibly attributable to last nights 'Pig Racing' in the longshed at Weymouth Sailing Club. During the evening Henry Arnold was awarded his second Duckhams Dress of the week. His multiple nominations focused on a large catalogue of errors over the previous 24 hours involving wine, women and song!

Tonight’s entertainment will revolve around the crews union and the almost certainly more sober helms dinner before everyone congregates back at Weymouth sailing club to demonstrate their talents on the Karaoke stage.
