Great wind at the 2007 APL Soling Europeans

Two more windward / leeward races were sailed today Day 3, in Arendal, Norway for the APL Soling European Championship, both with winds from the South West of 16 to 20 knots and no less important, under nice temperatures and a clear sky at the end of the day.

Only 51 boats could start today and although NOR 130 with the only woman helming at the event will start tomorrow, another boat won’t be able to continue racing due to a severe hit at the bow.

And although the event has a new leader overall with the Edding team from Argentina (ARG 32) Gustavo Warbug, Maximo Smith and Miguel Lacour, the races bullets went to Marinepool team GER 300 of Roman Koch, Maxl Koch and Gregor Bornemann and the Slovenian team SLO 1 of Bostjan Antoncic, Gennadi Skrath and Sergey Pichuguin.

The 2007 will come to an end tomorrow Friday, with one more race and a prize giving ceremony together with a free dinner.

Day 2 with winds from South west increasing from 15 to 25 knots the 52 Soling fleet faced two windward leeward courses where the tack to the left was clearly favoured, probably due to the current.

Former world Champion Marinepool team with Koch, Koch, Borneman won the first race and the second but due an incident in the second race they end up with a DSQ. The regularity was shown by the team GER 304 and team Edding ARG 32, the first finishing fifth and first and the second team with a seventh and second, and these results point to them as the candidates to win the event, with only three more races to be raced.

For tomorrow the same forecast and two more races are scheduled. Hopefully all Solings are able to go out after their repairs.

The ISA is also hosting an ISA members meeting during the tomorrow’s after race dinner.
