The sailing community is advised of the death of well known personality Stan Zemanek, on Thursday 12th July 2007 at home, after a long illness.

Stan, who celebrated his 60th birthday on May 29 this year, was a long time Member and supporter of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club and started sailing in Skiffs in Middle Harbour. Stan was a long time friend of a number of MHYC Members and shared ownership of a series of high profile offshore yachts including the Farr 50 Morning Mist, and the V60 Nokia.

His wife, Marcella said: 'We have lost a remarkable husband, father and grandfather and Australia has lost a genuine icon. Stan put up an incredibly brave and dignified fight this past year and he was buoyed and greatly comforted by the expressions of love and warm wishes we received during this protracted battle.

'The whole family thanks his many fans, colleagues and friends for their love and support.'

Details of the Funeral Arrangements will be announced shortly.

Instead of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Cure For Life Foundation. http://www.cureforlife.org.au/
